Jennings Probate Court Vol 2 (1829-1836) Page 54-55: On application of Samuel Graham guardian by letters of guardianship from the County Court of Shelby County State of Kentucky duly authenticated for the sale of the real estate of Cynthia Shilliday and Mary Jane Shilliday his wards. Said lands situate in the County of Jennings State of Indiana, and the said Cynthia and Mary Jane being the lawful heirs of Caleb Shilliday late of Kentucky deceased and the said Cynthia and Mary Jane being each entitled the one undivided one third part of each of the following tracts of land owned and possessed by the said Calib Shilliday in his life time to wit one being the South West Quarter of Section Number thirteen Town five Range Seven East, the other the North West quarter of Section twenty four Town five Range Seven of the Jeffersonville district of Lands. And it appearing to the Court that the interest of the said Cynthia and Mary Jane will be promoted by public sale of the said undivided one third part to them and each of them belonging in and to said lands and It is hereby considered ordered and decreed that Henry Cunard, James S Smith and Samuel S Graham be appointed commissioners in this behalf to view and appraise the one undivided third part of each of the said tracts to which the said Cynthia and Mary Jane are entitled, and that they make report ot the same at the next Term of this Court. In the 1840 US Federal Census for Shelby County, Kentucky, Jefferson T Doss has in his household one male under 5 [William], one male between 5 and 10 [Armstead Calvin], one male between 10 and 15 [unknown], one male between 15 and 20 [unknown], one male between 30 and 40 [himself], one female between 5 and 10 [unknown] and one female between 20 and 30 [his wife Cynthia Shelledy Doss]. Exerpts from the will of Elizabeth King, widow of George King: Box 5x Will and testament of Elizabeth King - dated July 22, 1868. Filed April 22, 1873, Isaac M Thompson, Clerk Item 1. To the children of deceased daughter Esther Goodhue five hundred dollars between them. Item 2.To my grand children - Calvin Doss, William M. Doss, Lockey Juan Fernando Doss, Children of my deceased daughter Cynthia Doss, five hundred dollars each. Item 3. I bequeath to my great grand child, William Demaree, son of Mary Demaree, a daughter of my deceased daughter, Cynthia Doss five hundred dollars. Item 4. To my daughter, Mary Ritchey, wife of John Ritchey of Kansas and to their two children five dollars each (Married Jan 16, 1838) Item 5. To grandson Jefferson T. Doss one thousand dollars and to my grand-daughter Jennie Doss three thousand dollars (to secure payment of this she made arrangement with John P. Banta for payment but she to receive interest as long as she lived.) A codicil of Oct.15, 1868 revoked items one and two and made two thousand dollars to be equally divided between grand-children Calvin Doss, William M. Doss, Lockey Juan Fernando Doss, Newell Goodhue, Florida(?) Goodhue, (Milt, Miller or Mills) Goodhue and Dwight Goodhue. Another codicil Oct 6, 1870 revokes codicil of Oct. 15, 1868 in so far as Jefferson T. Doss is mentioned he is to have but one hundred dollars, the nine hundred to be divided between the children of Mary Ritchey. Aug 4, 1871 another codicil canceled the codicil of Oct. 6, 1870 and restored Jefferson T Doss to favor. This will and proof is recorded in Book A-pages 416-417-418 in the records of Johnson Co. Ind.
