In the 1900 US Federal Census for Cleveland, Owen, Kentucky, 33-year-old Kentucky-born farmer Joseph and his 32-year-old Kentucky-born wife Victoria [McAnally] McCasland have been married 13 years and have had one child, 11-year-old Kentucky-born Perry. Everyone can read, write and speak English. Perry has attended school five months of the past year. Joseph is farming rented land. Joseph's father was born in Kentucky [sic] and his mother in Nebraska [sic]. Victoria's parents were born in Kentucky. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Covington, Kenton, Kentucky, 39-year-old Kentucky born widow Victoria [McAnally] McCasland is head of a household that includes her only child, 20-year-old Perry McCasland. The family is living in a rented house at 96-10th Street. Victoria is a baker in a bakery shop and Perry is a laborer in a rolling mill. Both Victoria and Perry read, write and speak English. Perry has not attended school in the past year. Victoria's father was born in the United States [sic] and her mother in Kentucky. Perry's parents were born in Kentucky. Perry married Florence Talbot on 2 Sep 1913 in Covington, Kenton, Kentucky. On 5 Jun 1917, when 28-year-old Perry Washington McCasland registers for the WWI draft he states that he is living at 2521 Cook, Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, that he was born 19 Jan 1889, that he was born in Covington, Kentucky which makes him a native born citizen. He is a laborer for the Wm Powell Company on Spring Grove Avenue and is married. He has never served in the military. He asks exception on the basis of a dependent. His description is caucasian, tall, slender with gray eyes and black hair. Ohio Soldiers in WWI, 1917-1918 Name: Perry W. McCasland Age: 28 10/12 Years Race: White Birth Location: Covington, Kentucky, USA Enlistment Date: 11 Dec 1917 Enlistment County: Fort Thomas Enlistment State: Kentucky Enlistment Division: National Army Comments: Co D 25 Engineers to Discharge Private, first class 1 July 1918. Meuse-Argonne. American Expeditionary Forces 27 Feb 1918 to 23 May 1919. Honorable discharge 6 June 1919. Perry McCasland claims exemption from military service on his WWI draft registration in 1917, on the basis of a dependent wife, but the 1920 US Federal Census for Miamisburg, Montgomery, Ohio gives his marital status as single and he is living with his step-father and mother. This would indicate either that his wife, Florence Talbot McCasland, had died or that they had divorced before that date. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Miamisburg, Montgomery, Ohio, 56-year-old Ohio-born Edgar and his 51-year-old Kentucky-born wife Victoria [McAnally McCasland] Girard have in their household Victoria's 26-year-old [sic] Kentucky-born son, Perry McCasland. The family is living in a rented house at 25 River Street. Edgar is a molder and Perry a laborer in a foundry. Everyone can read, write and speak English. Edgar's parents were born in Ohio, and Victoria's and Perry's in Kentucky. On 11 Nov 1922, 34-year-old Perry W McCasland marries 34-year-old Lila B [Langworthy] Rothwell in Kentucky. Both were born in 1888. The groom's father's name is John P McCasland and his mother's name is Victoria McCasland [sic]. The bride's father's name is Alvin Langworthy and her mother's name is Mary Langworthy [sic]. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio, 39-year-old Kentucky-born Perry W and his wife, 40-year-old Kentucky-born Lila [Langworthy Rothwell] McCasland married for the first time when he was 23-years old and she was 18-years old. This indicated that their marriage is a second one for both of them. In their household is Lila's daughter 23-year-old Ohio-born Nellie Rothwell. The family is living in a house, worth $2,000, on 48 Simpson Street, which he owns. They have a radio. Perry is a foreman for "refrig" and Nellie is a stenographer for "register". Both have worked on the last regularily scheduled work day. Perry is recorded as not having served in the military which is incorrect. Everyone's parents were born in Kentucky. On 25 Apr 1942, when 53-year-old Perry Washington McCasland registers for the WWII draft, he states that he is living at 48 Simpson Street, Dayton, Ohio, that his mailing address is the same, that he does not have a telephone, and that he was born in 19 Jan 1889 in Owen County, Kentucky. The person who will always know his address is his wife Lila McCasland who also lives at 48 Simpson Street. Perry works for the Frigidaire Corporation of Dayton, Ohio at the Taylor Street Plant. His description is white, 5 feet 9-1/2 inches, 158 pounds, with brown eyes, gray hair and a ruddy complexion. He has no other obvious physical characteristics that will aid in identification. Perry W McCasland died on 23 Oct 1961 in the Veterans' Administration Medical Center in Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio. He was 72-years old and married at the time of his death. His residence was Mercer County, Ohio. A physician certified his death. No autopsy was performed.
