Shared note
In the 1900 US Federal Census for Nevada, Ness, Kansas, 64-year-old farmer Joseph and his 55-year-old wife Caroline [maiden name unknown] Wray have been married 33-years and have had eight children, only three are living. However, the census taker has recorded four children, 33-year-old Indiana-born farmer W.E. [William Edward] who has been married 6 months, 30-year-old Iowa-born farmer George, 24-year-old Indiana-born E.L. [sic she is Euphemia Snodgrass, William's wife], and 17-year-old Iowa-born Mabel Wray. Joseph immigrated from England in 1851 and is a naturalized citizen. Caroline immigrated from England in 1865. Joseph is farming land he owns, free of mortgage. Everyone's parents are recorded as being born in England. This is incorrect for Euphemia, whose parents, Hugh and Lidia [Gray] Snodgrass, are living on an adjacent farm and who were born in Indiana. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Waring, Ness, Kansas, 42-year-old Indiana-born house carpenter William E and his 34-year-old Indiana-born wife Euphemia [Snodgrass] Wray have been married nine years and have had no children. They are living in a house which William owns, free of mortgage. William has worked every month of the past year. Everyone can read, write and speak English. William's parents were born in England. Euphemia's parents were born in Indiana. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Waring, Ness, Kansas, 51-year-old Indiana-born house carpenter Edward W [sic] and his 44-year-old Indiana-born wife Euphemia [Snodgrass] Rae [sic Wray] have in their household their adopted 2-year 6-month old Kansas-born daughter Louise Isaac [sic]. They are living in a house that William owns. William and Euphemia can read, write and speak English. William's parents were born in England. Euphemia's parents were born in Indiana. Lucile's father was born in England and her mother was born in Kansas. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Brownell, Ness, Kansas, 63-year-old Indiana-born house carpenter William E and his 54-year-old Indiana-born wife Euphemia [Snodgrass] Wray were married when he was 34- and she was 25-years old. They have in their household their adopted daughter, 12-year-old Kansas-born Lucile I. The family is living in a house worth $8,000 that William owns, free of mortgage. They own a radio. Lucile has attended school in the past year. William has had no months out of work in the past year. He is not a military veteran. Everyone can read, write and speak English. William's father was born in England and his mother in the United States. Euphemia's parents were born in Indiana. Lucile's father was born in England and her mother in Kansas. Living next door to the Wray's are Euphemia's widowed mother, 83-year-old Lydia [sic] A [Gray] Snodgrass, and Euphemia's aunt and uncle, 75-year-old Mattie L [Snodgrass] and 78-year-old Thomas A Swan.
