Grove Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. after only a short illness to which he was confined to his bed. He had reached a ripe old age. [date was Friday 4 May 1917] Grandpa McCaslin was borne in Henry county, Indiana, May 4, 1831 and went from there to Crawford county, Ark., to make his home when a young man. About 60 years ago he was married to Miss Mary Cradduck in Crawford county. Mrs. McCaslin died 18 years ago and her remains were buried in Atoka Cemetery. Mr. McCaslin has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Grove for the past 25 years, both Grandpa and Grandma McCaslin living with their daughter and family several years before her death. When the Civil war came, Mr. McCaslin enlisted as a Union soldier and served for four years as a member of Co. D. First Arkansas Cavalary and at the end of that time received an honorable discharge from his government. ??????and during the past year attended both the Fourth Congressional District convention at Shawnee and the Republican State convention at Oklahoma City. Few men of his age attended either of these conventions. He was as enthusiastic as a boy in political scraps of his party and when beaten in the party gave up with as good grace as any one possibly could but one of the big disappointments of his life was the defeat of Hughes for the Presidency in the last national election. He was known by most everyone in Coalgate and among his warmest friends were a number of Confederate soldiers. Everyone liked Grandpa McCaslin. He was a Christian, a devoted member of the M. E. church and was also an active member of the Presbyterian Bible class of this city, one of the largest Bible classes in the state. Three children survive: W. H. McCaslin of Henryetta; Mrs. W. H. Harrison of Idabell and Mrs. T. F. Grove of this city. He is also survived by one brother, G. W. McCaslin, of Chester, Ark. and one sister, Mrs. M. Lane, of Galena, Mo. Burial will be in Coalgate Cemetery Thursday afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence at 2:00 o'clock Thursday by Rex L. ?
