These three Iowa-born children are 11-year-old Pearl E, 8-year-old Burton C and 4-year-old Lyle [transcribed as Lile] W. Pearl and Burton have attended school nine months of the past year, but Lyle has only attend three months of the past year. William, Alice and Pearl can read, write and speak English. William's parents were born in New York, Alice's father was born in England and her mother in Iowa. Pearl, Burton and Lyle's father was born in Wisconsin [sic] and their mother in Iowa. William is renting the land he farms, free of mortgage [sic]. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Vernon, Kidder, North Dakota, 46-year-old New York-born farmer William Harvey and his 43-year-old Iowa-born wife Alice [maiden name unknown] have been married 21 years and have had three children, all of whom are living. Two of these Iowa-born children are in their household, 19-year-old Burton and 14-year-old Lyle. Also in their household are Alice's two Iowa-born nieces, 20-year-old rural school teachers Millie and Mary Camp. Everyone can read, write and speak English. His description is caucasian, medium build and height, with light blue eyes and dark brown hair. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Union, Kidder, North Dakota, 62-year-old Indiana-born farmer William A and his 48-year-old [sic] Indiana-born wife Effie R [Cline] Law have in their household their 8-year-old North Dakota-born schoolgirl daughter Gladys H, and William's unmarried brother, 53-year-old Indiana-born farm laborer Edward C Law. Also in William's household are his son-in-law 30-year-old Iowa-born farm laborer Burton C Harvey, his 19-year-old Indiana-born daughter Lesta M [Law] Harvey and his grandson 11-month old North Dakota-born Glen B Harvey. William owns the land he is farming. All the adults can read, write and speak English. Everyone's parents were born in Indiana except Burton's, whose father was born in New York and his mother in Iowa. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, 40-year-old Iowa-born Burton C and his 28-year-old Indiana-born wife Ester M [sic] [Law] Harvey were married when he was 28-years old and she was 16-years old. They have in their household their North Dakota-born children, 9-year-old Vern W, 7-year-old Gladys M, and 5-year-old Cecil S. The family is living at 2160 Winter Avenue, in a house for which Burton pays $18 a month rent. They have a radio. Vern and Gladys have attended school in the past year. Burton and Esther can read, write and speak English. Burton is a helper in a railroad yard and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He has not served in the military.
