In the 1900 US Federal Census for Richmond, Henrico, Virginia, 39-year-old Indiana-born clergyman Carey E Morgan and his wife 34-year-old Indiana-born wife May [sic] D [Dailey] Morgan have been married 15 years. May has born three children and all are living. These Indiana-born children are 15-year old Ralph [Carey], 13-year old Walter D and 8-year old Ruth, and a servant, 50-year old Virginia-born Patsy Gording. The family is living at 10 Laurel Street in a rented house. Ralph and Walter have attended school in the past year. Everyone except Ruth is literate and speaks English. Everyone's parents were born in Indiana. Obituary, The Tennessean, 6 Apr 1943 Mrs. Carey E. Morgan Will Be Buried Today Widow of Former Local Minister Dies in Georgia Funeral services for Mrs Carey E. Morgan, widow of the Rev. Ca- rey E. Morgan, who was pastor of the Vine Street Christian Church here for 17 years, will be held at the Murray M. Johnson Funeral Home this afternoon at 4 o'clock, with Dr. Roger T. Nooe officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Oliver Ceme- tery. Mrs. Morgan died in Atlanta, Ga., yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fielding Gordon. Mrs. Morgan cane to Nashville with her husband from Paris, Ky., in 1912, when Mr. Morgan became pastor of the Vine Street Church. Following her husband's death in 1925, Mrs. Morgan moved to Atlan- ta to make her home with her daughter. The body will arrive in Nashville early this morning and will be taken directly to the funeral home. Mrs. Morgan for many years was teach- er of the Loftia Bible Class here and was president of the Women's Guild of the church. She is survived by the one daugh- ter and by a son, Carey E. Morgan, Jr., of New York City.
